Exploring Schöneberg
A couple of weeks ago, I did a beautiful autumn walk with the lovely Julie from Track The Town.
Julie explores Berlin while running all around the city. You can even book a Berlin Running Tour with her! And although I'm not a runner, I immediately found a connection, as we both love to discover new neighborhoods.
Julie showed me around in the Schöneberg district, from Gleisdreieck to Bergmannkiez and showed me lots of cool spots and lots of inspiration for the 'Berlin Guide for Instagrammers'!
For the Berlin Guide you'll have to wait a little bit, but you can already see some Schöneberg tips and pictures here.
(Scroll down for 8 Schöneberg tips!)
My Schöneberg favourites:
The amazing mural 'Aufstand der Farben' or 'Insurrection of Colours' in front of the Gleisdeck subway entrance. This artwork is one of Berlin's largest paintings, painted by the 'Interbrigadas', a group of four Latin American artists. The mural has so many incredible details, I could watch it for hours! Can you spot Karl Marx, a jaguar, the U-Bahn, and the Fernsehturm? A beautiful mixture of Latin American and Berlin elements.
The BRLO Brwhouse is not only a cool Brewery but also a restaurant, bar, beer garden, and event space. The garden makes me long for spring! I'm so looking forward to sitting here! Fun fact: BRLO is the old Slavic origin of the name Berlin.
Park at Gleisdreieck is a beautiful park on a former railway area. It has been designed to have something for everyone! Lots of green, lots of open space, cool playgrounds, a skateboard park, a rose garden, a nature discovery area, etc! The park even got a well-deserved award, the German Landscape Architecture Prize 2015 for produces outstanding quality in design and construction.
Next to the park, you can see the German Tech building. German Tech is all about innovative ecological and sustainable innovations in the private, public and social sectors. A beautiful building for a beautiful organization with a beautiful vision.
The incredible hidden 'höfe' (courtyard) at the St-Bonifatius church. We discovered this spot by accident but stayed there extra long to take tons of pictures. Such a pretty pretty place!
Kumru Kuruyemis is a paradise of flavors and scents! Nuts, tea, herbs, spices ... in all colors and forms!
Maadame Concept Store is a little bit hidden, but worth the search. Here you can find a cool collection of fashion, interior, and cool Christmas decorations (never too soon... ;)).
The Marheineke Makthalle is one of the few remaining Markthalle in Berlin. It has 2,500 square meters of culinary treats. Organic ice cream, a wine shop, bread, juices, fruits, vegetables, flowers and so much more.
